«Experts’ opinions: what do you primarily associate a modern metropolis with?»
St. Petersburg of the future and new attracting centres in the urban environment were discussed at the traditional real estate conference (“Nedvizhki”), dedicated to the City Day.
Dmitry Nekrestyanov, Partner, Head of Real Estate and Investment Practice at Kachkin & Partners, comments on an article about St. Petersburg development:
Although megacities differ from country to country, they are in many ways very similar. A well-developed megacity implies a business centre with a lot of green areas and landscaping, where roads and other infrastructure are hidden underground, and offices and other «pragmatic» buildings maintenance are concentrated in high-rises or in campus housing.
Priority should be given to efficient and convenient public transport when using your own car makes no sense. I visited Shanghai the other day, a city with a much larger population compared to St. Petersburg. I was extremely surprised that there was no crowding in public transport with even free seating. It is especially important to have fast transport to the suburbs giving an option to move from the downtown to low-rise suburbs in only half an hour. For example, nowadays it takes about 30 minutes to get from Zelenogorsk to the Finlyandsky railway station by an electric train Lastochka. In other megacities these high-speed «outbound» routes are much highly developed.
